Although plagiarism may seem like an easy way to accomplish a task, the consequences of plagiarism could have serious ramifications to a person’s future. Plagiarism is defined by dictionary.com as “an act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and the representation of that author's work as one's own, as by not crediting the original author”. The act of plagiarism is considered illegal by the U.S Government and comes along with many consequences. One of the main consequences is to the academic career to those that commit plagiarism. The FSU honor policy outlines 8 different circumstances in which charges could be brought against a student. If charges are brought against a student initially a conference with the teacher is made to gather more information. If the teacher believes that the student is guilty they will be brought to a conduct board where sanctions may be filled. Such sanctions could include a failing grade on the assignment or in more serious cases the revocation of a degree.
